Synopsis:
The avant-garde Rome 78 is the brainchild of James Nares and Eric Mitchell. Much of what unfolds on screen beggars description, so we won't attempt a detailed synopsis. Suffice to say that the main characters are Caligula and the Queen of Sheba. Oh, yes: the story doesn't take place in the Ancient World. Gaining a solid "word of mouth" reputation on the Underground Film circuit, Rome '78 isn't likely to pop up on Showtime, American Movie Classics or the Disney Channel.

Comments:
I checked out this film because I have an interest in the music scene many of the actors had a part in. The first time I watched it I was amazed at how ludicrous and crappy the movie is. The second time it really connected, and the insanity and chaos of the production really hit home. Lydia Lunch was obviously tripping on acid when she did her bits... I would only recommend this film to afficionados of the No Wave scene and its personalities. This film is extremely self-indulgent and at times, completely incoherent. Of course I find these factors enjoyable.
